River City is an energetic six-piece folk band from San Diego. Their rowdy foot-stomping sonic folk layered with banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and guitars, combined with often dark and whimsical lyrical imagery provides for a uniquely painted musical landscape. River City has released an EP and full length album and have toured up and down the west coast multiple times.
"Alt-Country sextet River City uses a plethora of instruments blended to create a sound that is folk and not, soft yet jagged, while pulled and tied together with a somber tone of lyrical honesty for reckless lovers, foolish flames, and one-eyed captains sailing down flooded city streets with friendly choirs of casket-wielding, sign-waving, banjo-plucking poets." - San Diego Reader
"Six members in all, River City’s lineup — complete with banjo, fiddle, bass, guitar, drums, and even a mandolin thrown in for good measure — looked like they were about to play some good ole fashioned bluegrass music. But what came out of the speakers was a lot more dynamic than any bluegrass music I’ve ever heard. Each song seemed to be an experiment of sorts, testing how far River City could push the country genre before it became something else entirely." - Webb Valarezo - Owl and Bear
